By Rick Ehrlich

Our civilization has the ability to see trends, make good forecasts, with prior knowledge of expectations, if we do this or do that. Yet here are some major examples of knowingly plunging headfirst into looming disaster. And why?

a) Yearly, our (US) deficit grows bigger; national debt climbs steeper than ever. We know what must be done to avoid financial disaster (reduce military, tax the rich, move towards balance of entitlements), yet nobody in Congress suggests such a program, or tries to persuade support. Not a Democrat or Republican problem… rather an idiot problem. The plain forecast of almost every prominent economist is either national debt default with American financial disaster, or rising very bad inflation devaluing our money, with disaster for Americans. Yet we do nothing to correct it. Why?

b) The big Western world has encouraged little Ukraine to fight huge Russia, giving/loaning Ukraine around $500 billion so far (approx 300 from the USA, 200 from Europe) in a hopeless, tragic war effort, rather than an obvious solution of a compromise and mutual security agreement. Ukraine has now maybe twenty million people (Western news uniformly reports 30 million). But they uniformly include the Russia-annexed regions, Crimea, Donbass, and 2 other regions having 9.5 million, per current Google statistics. Further, it does not address the reported 4.5mm refugees into W. Europe, or the 5mm who actually moved to old Russia. Versus Russia having 145 million BEFORE the referenda-based annexations of 2022. How could anyone have forecasted that small Ukraine could defeat enormous Russia? For comparison purposes, a mob of 20 will be squashed by a mob of 150. Yet Europe continues paying, and the USA might as well, as it “loans” or “sells” weapons to enable (push?) Ukraine to continue. Why?

c) Continual increase of oil, gas, and coal burning for power, heat, transportation (resulting growth of emissions), causing ever-rising CO2 and other harmful gases’ percentage of the atmosphere, despite our ability to ramp up solar, wind, and other green power tech. This causes and continues to increase hotter weather, more violent storms, natural disasters, worse drinking water, along with a future rising sea level from ice melt. We know it is much worse now, disaster costs are much higher, and certainly going way higher in the future. Why?

d) Pushing towards war, this time the USA vs China over the Taiwan “issue.” Just look at a globe, see where Taiwan is in relation to China (almost touching, really close), versus its distance from the USA (literally halfway around the world). Consider the populations: China 1.4 billion, vs USA 330 million. We are on the losing side of that formula! If we couldn’t defeat much smaller North Korea, South Vietnam, Iraq, or Afghanistan…. Well, you get the picture. And Germany’s leader, Fightin’ Friedrich Merz, advocating war against Russia! Brilliant! Wait a minute, we saw that movie, and it was really awful for Germany. So why?

Each is like seeing a catastrophe beginning in very slow-motion video. You know it is coming, no way to avert it, yet the same course/strategy is continued. A (possible) Einstein quote, “insanity is doing the same thing over and over while expecting different results.“ Imagine a very rainy weather forecast, but still going to the beach? Or betting heavily on an underdog who always loses? Or losing money all night in a big poker game but expecting to win it all back on just one last hand? Why do we always have to be the country run by idiots, military contractors, and vested petroleum interests?

Speculate why, the only reasonable conclusion is VESTED INTERESTS. Huge military contractors must keep society fearing the enemy du jour, and buying more weapons. Oil, gas, coal, resource owners, and industry shareholders must keep drilling and distribution going. No other answer has any logic.
