As I sat outside a sweat lodge, listening to the soft chanting of a Native American language, I felt it for the first time. It came to me in the beauty of stillness. The silence was apparent, but I had never experienced it at this depth. Silence came in waves — an awakening to the quiet pulse of everything around me. There was a fire outside the lodge, its crackle weaving through the chant — a rhythm I might once have missed. The busy-ness of life tried to invade my senses, but for once, I did not let it in. I simply breathed, absorbing what I had always overlooked. There is a whole world within silence, and I am grateful for this awareness.
I took this lesson to heart and began to use silence to listen differently — to perceive communication on another plane. I had a habit of listening only on the surface, composing my reply while the other person was still speaking. That is the space where judgment and self-defense take root. When someone speaks, their words carry not just meaning but energy, revealed through tone, gesture and breath. Sometimes these do not align — and in silence, one can see everything at once.
From that space, I learned to respond with empathy and kindness — the same care I hope another would offer me. We call this moment the present because it is a gift — for the other person and for ourselves.

During my time in the woods, I saw so many things I had once ignored. I will not make that mistake again. I give thanks for that tremendous lesson. I saw the trees sway with a gentle wind, the birds rise and circle, butterflies drifting from bloom to bloom — each movement composing its own prayer of life.
I now communicate differently, especially with those I love. I am fully present and available. In stillness, I realize that what they say has nothing to do with me — it is entirely about them. When I detach with love and release the outcome, I am free to be in the moment, unburdened by the projection of my own thoughts or fears.
This energy lies beyond ordinary awareness, yet it hums within us, waiting for recognition. It is the power of Spirit — a vibration and frequency beyond comprehension. Human beings often move as a herd, gathering around what feels safe or accepted, rarely daring to step beyond the familiar.
But true connection is born in silence. In the quiet between thoughts, when the mind softens and the breath deepens, we discover what has been awaiting us all along. There is peace in stillness — a peace too easily drowned by the chaos and discord of everyday noise.
