Commentary: Every year about this time, Santa Claus sits down at his desk with a cup of hot cocoa and starts reviewing his list of who’s been naughty and who’s been nice. Yep, he’s been stalking you, too. How else can he see you when you’re sleeping or know when you’re awake? Don’t call the cops to report him, just be good for goodness sake.

Realizing Jolly Old St. Nick is quite busy these days, I decided to help him out and start a naughty or nice list for him.

Who’s On the Naughty List:

Mike Johnson: The current (for now) Speaker of the House made the naughty list for reasons too numerous to list here. One of his most egregious offenses is how he sent the House on vacation for 54 days to avoid a vote on releasing the Epstein files, while refusing to swear in newly– elected Adelita Grijalva from Arizona. How’s that working for you Mikey?

Sean Duffy: The U.S. Secretary of Transportation decried political symbols on public roadways under the guise of public safety and threatened to withhold federal funding from states who did not comply. Rainbow crosswalks, considered to be political symbols, all across the nation began disappearing as a result.

CBS and ABC: Paramount, CBS’s parent company capitulated to Donald Trump’s extortion ploy and paid $16 million to resolve a lawsuit over a 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris. ABC News agreed to a $15 million settlement over a defamation lawsuit Trump brought against the network. Both networks (CBS and ABC) lacked the balls to stand up to a bully.

Donald Trump: Bah, humbug! Enough said!

Who’s on the Nice List:

Michael Cassavaugh: Thanks to his hard work and the team Michael assembled, Third Coast Pride had a highly successful festival and parade in October. Additionally, he has an amazing cast and crew at Island Time Beach Bar and Grill.

Tony Vaccaro: The owner of Tony’s Corner Pocket has been a Montrose institution for decades. Tony makes the bar available for countless fundraisers and benefit shows, offers free meals to the community during emergencies and gives all of us lots of eye candy, on an almost nightly basis. Plus, name another boss that sends his staff on a Galveston excursion for a few days each year and picks up the tab.

Charles Armstrong: For 40 years he has provided a safe space and through Charles Armstrong Investments, has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to organizations that are benefiting the LGBTQ+ community.

U.S. Supreme Court: No, really. The nation’s highest court got a reprieve from the naughty list when they decided not to revisit the legality of same sex marriage and told Kim Davis to take a hike. The court turned away an appeal filed by Davis, a former county clerk in Kentucky who was sued after refusing to issue a marriage license to a gay couple. Davis has been married four times to three husbands but thought she should lecture the rest of us about the sanctity of marriage.

Marjorie Taylor Greene: Is it possible for a leopard to change its spots? The MAGA firebrand has been a fierce advocate for the survivors of the Jeffrey Epstein scandal, putting herself on the opposite side of Trump and emerging as a voice of reason. After being called a traitor by the president, MTG shot back saying, “Let me tell you what a traitor is. A traitor is an American that serves foreign countries and themselves.” Is she sincere with this change of heart? We’ll see, but as the saying goes, when a donkey flies, don’t blame it for not staying up that long.

Stars of the Month: Regina Dane, C.C. Ryder, Angel Oxl, Ava Aurora, Misty Valdez, Roxanne Collins, Kofi, KeKe Brooks, Alexis Nicole Whitney, the cast of Rocky Horrible, Kitty Kontour and Chevelle Brooks. These people openly shared their thoughts and ideas with Montrose Star readers.

Bartenders of the Month: Barcode’s Chris Commander, Eagle Houston’s Chris Contello. 23rd Street Station’s Sherry Boyett, Play Nightlife’s Casey Reed, George Country Sports Bar’s Crystal Murley, Robert’s Lafitte’s Alex Keller, Barcode’s Kirby James Henderson, Tony’s Corner Pocket’s Mykey, Island Time’s Joshua Mills, Montrose Country Club’s Dominic Borsellino, Varsity’s Gary Garibay, and Island Pier Club’s Louis Johnston. These industrious folks continually help to provide the LGBTQ+ community a place to unwind in a safe environment.

Season’s Greetings and if you were not on Santa’s nice list, there’s always next year.
