Commentary: One news story not being reported on by the news, is that the president of the United States is mentally unwell. That should be the lead headline of every newscast every night.

The problem is that the president’s supporters will never admit that he is frigging crazy and the rest of us are accused of TDS (Trump Derangement Syndrome) if we call out his psychotic episodes, which occur on a daily basis. If it were your dad up all night posting bizarre pictures of himself as Jesus, you’d be on the phone to Shady Pines first thing in the morning.

Flying the U.S. flag upside down is a federally recognized signal of dire distress, specifically indicating “instances of extreme danger to life or property.” While rooted in maritime tradition to signal a ship in trouble, it has widely evolved into a symbol of political protest representing a “nation in distress.”

It is time to lower your flag, flip it over, and run it back up the flagpole as fast and as high as it will go. We are a nation in distress!

After pardoning about 1,600 convicted insurrectionists on his inauguration day in 2025, Donald Trump declared war on every non-white, non-straight, and non-ass-kisser in the country.

That included the LGBTQ+ community. One of the first actions taken by the new administration was to try to erase our history, especially the contributions of the trans community.

The current administration ordered the flying rainbow flag at the Stonewall National Monument be removed, which should have been viewed as our Fort Sumter.

The park service said it’s simply complying with guidance that clarifies longstanding flag policies and applies them consistently. Using that same logic, the Trumpers went after anything that could be construed as D.E.I. (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.)

Local authorities, fearing funding cuts if not in compliance, ordered rainbow painted crosswalks be removed in Houston, Galveston, Dallas, San Antonio, and dozens of other cities across the country.

Unfortunately, for Republicans, the LGBTQ+ community is not easily erased and there is more to Pride than a flag.

More recently, the GOP has set its sights on erasing the Black community from representation in Congress. All Trump had to do was ask his personal ass kissers in Austin to get him five more House seats in Texas and they puckered up.

That set the stage for the GOP redrawing district lines in Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Florida—all former slave owning Confederate states, to reduce minority representation by as much as they could. Tennessee, already gerrymandered to the max, carved up its only Black majority district, leaving the state without any minority representation.

While they are busy trying to erase minority representation, they slipped their greedy little hands into our pockets. After Trump desecrated the White House and told us private donations with no cost to taxpayers, would pay $200 million to build a brand-new state of the art ballroom, the price gradually went up to $450 million.

Republicans are now seeking $1 billion in taxpayer money for the project whose estimated cost has risen faster than they can say “cut taxes on the wealthy.”

“I don’t think about Americans’ financial situation. I don’t think about anybody. I think about one thing—we cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon. That’s all,” was Trump’s response when asked about the effect of soaring prices on Americans caused by the war of choice in Iran.

That may be the first honest thing he has said in years and even that was not totally true. “I think about one thing—we cannot let Iran have a nuclear weapon,” is not a true statement either. We all know the only thing he thinks about is himself.

Oh, and remember those 1,600 pardoned insurrectionists mentioned earlier? The ones who spread feces on the walls of the Capital, beat the cops, and wanted to hang the Vice-President? Trump created the $1,776 billion “Anti-Weaponization Fund,” to financially compensate his January 6 allies and rioters who claim they were unfairly targeted or prosecuted by the government.

We are not being governed or fairly represented, we are being looted and erased. We are a nation in distress!
