The Diana Foundation, America’s oldest continuously active LGBTQ+ organization, proudly announces the election of Gianna Christina Ramirez as Secretary of its Board of Governors for the 2026–2027 term. Ramirez was elected by a unanimous vote of the membership, reflecting strong confidence in her leadership, service, and commitment to the community.

Founded in 1953, The Diana Foundation has served as a cornerstone of Houston’s LGBTQ+ community for more than seven decades. What began as a small gathering of friends has grown into a historic institution dedicated to philanthropy, community building, and the celebration of LGBTQ+ culture. Through its signature events and charitable initiatives, the organization has raised and distributed critical funds to support local nonprofits, while fostering a sense of belonging for generations.

Ramirez’s election is a historic milestone for the organization, as she becomes the first openly transgender individual elected to serve on The Diana Foundation’s Board of Governors—and as an officer of the Board. Her elevation to Secretary represents both a meaningful moment in the Foundation’s history and a reflection of its continued evolution alongside the community it serves.

A respected Houston-based advocate and community leader, Ramirez is widely known for her work in LGBTQ+ fundraising, event leadership, and grassroots organizing. Her years of service have focused on advancing visibility, expanding access, and supporting vulnerable members of the community—particularly transgender individuals facing systemic barriers. Through her leadership and lived experience, she brings both perspective and purpose to this role.

“Being a member of The Diana Foundation has been one of my life’s greatest joys,” said Ramirez. “It is where I have made lifelong friends, found deep purpose, and discovered a group dedicated to uplifting the LGBTQ+ community with just the right amount of glamour. The Diana Foundation has always been a place where people can show up as their full, authentic selves, and that is something that has deeply impacted my life.”

Ramirez continued: “As this is our community’s longest enduring institution, I do not take the responsibility of serving on the board lightly. While it is beyond humbling to be the very first trans person to be elected, I know I will not be the last. As we head into our 74th year and approach nearly three quarters of a century of service to the Houston community, I look forward to celebrating our storied history while focusing on the future we all deserve.”

The Diana Foundation has long stood as a welcoming and affirming space for the LGBTQ+ community. From its earliest days to the present, the organization has embraced individuals across identities and experiences, creating opportunities for connection, celebration, and service. Ramirez’s election underscores that commitment and sends a clear message: the Foundation remains a place where all are welcome, all are valued, and all have a role to play.

“Gianna’s election is both historic and deeply meaningful for The Diana Foundation,” said Tanner Williams, President of The Diana Foundation. “She has already demonstrated an unwavering commitment to our mission and to the broader LGBTQ+ community. Having her serve as Secretary of our Board of Governors strengthens our leadership and reflects who we are as an organization—one that honors its history while continuing to grow, evolve, and open doors. We are proud to have Gianna in this role and excited for the impact she will make.”

As The Diana Foundation prepares to enter its 74th year, the organization remains focused on its mission to support the Houston LGBTQ+ community through philanthropy, engagement, and enduring tradition—while continuing to create space for new voices and new leaders to shape its future.
