We lost a warrior

The Kingpen, Thorne Peters, was a warrior for the plant, cannabis. When he passed away, he was alone and in a cage. He was locked in a cage for cannabis.
Peters called himself The Kingpin and maintained a website and wrote books on his views on drug prohibition. He had the balls to tell the truth and defy intolerable laws. He spoke out while on trial and he poked holes in the sinking inner tube of prohibition. Thorne was also a huge advocate for no “mens rea†or “guilty mind or intent†and without that, no crime.
“Mens rea†and “actus rea†both are important aspects of criminal law that are considered in court to determine the nature of a crime. The presence of these two conditions must be established before a criminal charge and the appropriate punishment can be determined.
Peters was found unresponsive in his cell by corrections staff at 7:10 a.m. on Sunday, November 4, 2019, at the Shelby County Division of Correction, county spokeswoman Lauren Lee wrote in an email. The prison is near Shelby Farms. The cause of death is being investigated. He was housed in a single cell with no cellmates. He was serving a four-year sentence in county custody that began Oct 16, 2018, for possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of marijuana with intent to sell. He was scheduled for release in December, 2021.
The cannabis community mourns this warrior who put his life and his freedom on the line to have his voice heard, not just for himself, but for so many others who have been illegally healed by cannabis and those who have faced injustices at the hands of the justice system.
I personally would like to extend my condolences to all of his friends and family, as I know the loss is great. He was family to many people in the cannabis family and his presence will be missed.
