Next month voters in the United States will decide on what vision they want for the future of the country. One that is focused on the future and the other that is focused on the past. One candidate offers a campaign of grievance and retribution, a vision of darkness, fear, and despair.
The other side thinks America’s best is yet to come and offers a vision of hope and promise.
Many voters are one-issue voters. For years, I have voted for the candidate or party that supported the rights of LGBTQ+ people. Basically, nothing else mattered if the candidate was on the right side of my issue. So, I get that.
But never did a candidate I support be so vile, nefarious, conniving, traitorous, toxic, treacherous, despotic, unscrupulous, diabolical, monstrous, and unchristian. If he/she were, I could not have supported them.
So, I get that you hold your anti-abortion view above everything else. That’s the hill you’re willing to die on. But at what cost? To ban abortion, have you sacrificed your morals and values and sold your soul to the devil? Yes, Donald Trump got you the abortion ban you wanted but look what it cost. What the hell is wrong you?
People like to proclaim “I support the police” yet will vote for a man promising to pardon the thugs who attacked the police on the January 6 insurrection. You know what you saw on that fateful day but have bought into Trump’s re-written version and deny the truth. WTH is wrong with you?
All of us watched in horror when innocent children were gunned down in Uvalde and Santa Fe, Texas. The gun rights lobby, which controls the G.O.P., always uses the same old tired rhetoric: Guns don’t kill people, people kill people, arm the teachers, etc.
JD Vance, Trump’s VP choice, called school shootings just a “fact of life” after another horrific gun violence and a day after a shooter killed a sixth-grade student and wounded five other people at a high school near Des Moines, Iowa, Donald Trump told residents there that they “have to get over it.”
And yet the “right to life” folks get weak in the knees over the pair. Will it take your child or grandchild being ripped to pieces by a weapon of war before you see the need for sensible gun reform? What the hell is wrong with you?
Speaking of that child or grandchild, surely you try to teach them the difference between right and wrong. How will you explain to them that you voted for a man convicted of 34 felonies and found liable for sexual assault? You walk around with clothing proudly proclaiming, “I’m voting for the felon.” Really? Is that something you want to be proud of? What the hell is wrong with you?
What if your wife cannot receive the abortion healthcare she needs to save her life and dies because doctors do not want to go to prison if they help her? You helped make that happen. WTH is wrong with you?
Donald Trump posted “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT.” A normal person asks, “What kind of grown ass man much less someone wanting to be the leader of the free world stoops so low and makes such infantile statement?” You support that kind of immaturity in a president? What the hell is wrong with you?
If your child mocked a classmate with disabilities, the punishment would be swift and harsh. I hope. You would let your child know that in no manner is that acceptable behavior. Yet, you saw Trump stand behind a speaker’s platform and make fun of a disabled reporter standing in front of him. That abusive behavior is straight out of the “How to be a Bully Handbook,” and instead of being a deal breaker, you voted for him. WTH is wrong with you?
Trump said, “Can you imagine you’re a parent and your son leaves the house, and you say, ‘Jimmy, I love you so much, go have a good day in school,’ and your son comes back with a brutal operation? Can you even imagine this? What the hell is wrong with our country?” No Donald, what the hell is wrong with the people that believe your bullshit?
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband was viciously attacked in his home, beaten about the head with a hammer and nearly died. And then Trump gets up in front of his admirers and cracks jokes and his audience laughs.
One of the saddest things about Trump’s ascent to the summit of the Republican Party is how the rest of the party has taken up his mantra. Because of him, you deny what your own eyes are seeing (January 6), believe in the wildest conspiracy theories, mock disabled people and the elderly, and cannot see the truth because he has told you differently. What the hell is wrong with you?
You know he is unfit for office. Try putting country over party, just this once.
